  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

What we need to know

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.

Landlord roof survey in Taplow: what you get

Some landlords book a survey when they buy a property to let, others when a tenant reports a leak or damp. Agents and freeholders often want a survey for a rolling maintenance plan. Whatever the reason, the report follows the same clear format, with photos and recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends which can help when arranging access with residents. If you’ve noticed choked outlets and gutters and cracked or leaning shared chimneys, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Somewhere as small as Taplow, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it’s usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.

If any part of the let or shared roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Questions from Taplow

Is Taplow within the area you cover?

Yes, Taplow is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Taplow station?

Of course. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and we can send the report to you or your agent.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.

Can you survey a shared roof on a terrace or converted house?

Yes, shared roofs are a common request. We can only inspect neighbouring parts from where we are allowed to be and we will say so.

Can we use the survey to plan a roof budget?

Yes. Recommendations are prioritised by urgency where relevant, which helps you plan work and budgets. Repair costs aren’t included but it gives contractors a clear brief.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

What we look for on each type of roof

Party-wall upstands and parapets

Where a roof is shared with neighbours, we can only inspect what we’re given access to, and the report says what was seen.

Flat roofs on blocks and rear additions

Felt flat roofs often last around 15–20 years, so their age matters.

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Deal with urgent items first
  • Arrange flat access ahead of time
  • Ask your managing agent about lease terms
  • Keep roof surveys on a rolling plan

You receive a written report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. We send it by email ready to pass on to whoever needs it.

Ask tenants and residents to report damp, stains or drips promptly. The sooner you know, the smaller the problem typically is.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

When you need someone else

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • A full structural assessment of the building
  • The rest of the building, as a RICS Level 2 or 3 survey would
  • Legal advice on leases or service charges

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Landlord roof surveys around Taplow

Historic houses such as Cliveden, about 1.8 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Taplow goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.

Take a building like St Nicolas' Church of England Combined School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. Trees in and around Braywick Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicolas, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

How it works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Somewhere like Taplow needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. You tell us about the building, its roofs and any known leaks.
  2. We let you know which flats and hatches we need to reach.
  3. The roofs are inspected from ground level, vantage points, the loft space and the roof where safe.
  4. The report records areas we couldn’t access.
  5. You receive photos and recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Before the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
