Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Taplow
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. If you are worried about standing water on a flat roof and moss and weeds taking hold up top, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs alike.
Some older homes in villages like Taplow are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Before and after the survey
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Drones, thermal imaging and Taplow roofs
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
For hotels and guest houses around Taplow, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicolas, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

FAQs for Taplow
Is drone flying allowed in Taplow?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Taplow listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Light rain does not typically stop a survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we will arrange another day with you.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You will then get the report by email.

What happens on the day
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Taplow needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming

Related advice
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
When to book a survey in Taplow
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Problems we come across often include:
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Chimney tops in poor condition
Cliveden, about 1.8 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Taplow. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Why act early in Taplow
It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. In a small place like Taplow, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.
