About our new roof snagging in Stockland Green
Snagging means finding the small faults and loose ends left at the end of a job. On a roof, snags are often at the edges and junctions, where the detailing is hardest. We check everything we can see safely and photograph each snag. Loose ridges, untidy verges, badly dressed flashings and leftover debris are typical snags. We survey ridges and verges, flashings and valleys and replacement roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are cracked or slipped new tiles or slates and gutters blocked by building debris.
Somewhere as small as Stockland Green, older cottages, farmhouses and converted buildings often sit beside a few newer homes. Village roofs can be clay tile, slate, stone or even thatch on some older buildings. Each covering has its own weak points, whether the roof is old or newly laid. Older roofs may also have old felt underlay or none, and fixings that have done a long stint.
The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What affects the cost of new roof snagging
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- House, block, shop or office
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Which survey package you book
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.
What to tell us when you get in touch
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
The survey, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes between one and two hours for a typical new house roof, longer where the roof is large or complicated. Somewhere as small as Stockland Green, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start by finding out what was replaced and what worries you.
- The new coverings, ridge, hips and verges are inspected where it’s safe to see them.
- Flashings, valleys, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are looked at.
- We look in the roof space, where there is safe access, and around the property for debris or damage.
- The snags are written up with photos for you to share with your roofer.
Before the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Jot down any questions you want answered
How to book
