Book new roof snagging in Wickham

How it works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Wickham can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
  2. The new coverings and roof edges are inspected as far as can safely be seen.
  3. We look at valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves.
  4. The loft space and the rest of the property are checked for problems.
  5. You get a photo report of each snag.

How to prepare

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

About our new roof snagging in Wickham

Householders book snagging after a re-roof or roof replacement and some new-build owners want their roof looked at. We inspect each roof as far as safe access allows, from ground level, vantage points, the roof space and the roof where safe. A photo report follows, ready to share with your roofer or builder. If you’ve noticed missing or blocked roof ventilation and gutters blocked by building debris, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on loft conversions and dormers, replacement roofs and flashings and valleys alike.

Somewhere as small as Wickham, older cottages, farmhouses and converted buildings often sit beside a few newer homes. Older roofs there may have clay tiles, slate, stone or, in some places, thatch. Each covering has its own weak points, whether the roof is old or newly laid. What’s under the coverings, from old felt to the battens and nails, matters too.

Where we cannot see part of the new roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Why get it checked now?

Leaving debris in gutters can cause overflows that soak walls. Finding it now is simpler than tracing damp later. Outbuildings and barns around Wickham are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What you get with us

  • Drones and thermal imaging where it applies
  • Surveys on any day of the week

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • How the roof will perform for years to come
  • Areas out of view from each safe vantage point
  • What’s under the new coverings

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Flashings and valleys
  • New-build homes
  • Loft conversions and dormers
  • Ridges and verges
  • Replacement roofs
  • New flat roofs

Can I check my roof myself?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

Tips from our surveys

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Watch for gutters overflowing in rain
  • Put any issues to your roofer in writing
  • Keep warranty papers safe
  • Look for new stains after a downpour

Once the work is finished, check the ceilings and loft after the next downpour. If anything shows, tell your roofer straight away.

Agree the snagging inspection with your roofer before the job starts. It sets clear expectations and leaves time for snags to be fixed.

Local roofs and buyers in Wickham

The wider area around Wickham has a long history of building, with Benham Park about 3.7 miles south-east. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Each material has its own typical faults, which is what a buyer or the owner of a new roof needs to know about.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Swithin, a survey will show how the roof has been repaired before, which helps you judge what’s coming. If you let a flat or house near Kintbury station, a written report helps before buying a rental or paying for a new roof on one.
