Roof survey in TW14: how it works

A roof survey tells you what condition your roof is in, before small faults become big ones. We check the coverings, the ridges and hips, the valleys and flashings, the chimneys and the gutters, along with the loft where it’s safe to get in. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations. Where it is relevant, the recommendations are prioritised by urgency. We’re frequently asked to look into lifted, split or missing lead flashings and standing water on a flat roof, on ridges, hips and valleys, chimney stacks and flat roofs.

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes an hour or two at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time.

  1. We start with the property details and any concerns.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. Outside, we inspect from the ground, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
  4. We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
  5. We email a written report with photos and recommendations.

Local landmarks in Feltham

We work in homes and buildings around Moon On The Square pub, Christ Church and Rivers Academy West London. You will also find St Lawrence Catholic Primary School (within half a mile south-east) and Hounslow Heath (1.2 miles north-east). Feltham has its own railway station: Feltham station. Other landmarks nearby include Hounslow Hospital (2.3 miles north-east) and Kempton Steam Museum (1.6 miles south). The countryside around Feltham includes Richmond Hill and Pevensey Road Nature Reserve.

Homes and roofs across TW14

From Feltham, Bedfont and Hatton to smaller places, people across TW14 use a roof survey to plan ahead. A report helps you sort small faults before they let water in.

Several airports in London and the South East have flight restriction zones around them, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any drone flight in TW14. Flights that need permission only go ahead once it’s given.

Feltham: If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Treaty Centre, a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions. Living close to Hounslow Heath is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaks rarely show up straight away. Insulation, plaster and timber can all be damp before you see a stain. From inside the loft space, we can often spot it sooner.

Before you book any surveyor

  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

Signs you need a roof survey

A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Once leaves and moss block a gutter, water spills down the brickwork. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building, particularly near trees.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Flashings that have come away from the wall
  • Loose ridge or hip tiles
  • Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
  • Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists

When you need someone else

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • An exact number of years the roof has left

Useful tips for TW14 property owners

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Keep the report with your property records
  • Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
  • Have details of recent roof work to hand
  • Leave roof access to professionals

Your report arrives by email. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Each finding is set out in plain English.

Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, particularly after autumn. Use a gutter contractor rather than climbing a ladder yourself. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.

Can I check my roof myself?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

Your questions about roof surveys in TW14

What’s covered in a roof inspection?

We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, along with the loft where it is safe. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Will you climb onto the roof?

Where it’s safe, yes. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the loft space. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How much is a survey?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.

Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?

Yes, we inspect your part of the roof. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
