Pre-Purchase Roof Survey in Slade Green
Pre-purchase roof surveys for homes and businesses in Slade Green. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Blistered or split felt on a flat roof
- Chimney mortar that has eroded
- Gutters that overflow or drip at the joints
Can I check my roof myself?
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Pre-purchase roof surveys for homes and businesses in Slade Green
Tall, steep or hidden roofs are hard to judge from the street. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where it applies, along with a same-day report. Where a flight isn’t possible, because of airspace rules or the weather, we tell you and inspect from every other safe vantage point. If you are worried about ponding, blisters or splits on a flat roof and roof slopes that look uneven or sagging, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
London terraces and converted houses often share a roof line, chimney stacks and gutters with the house next door, with parapet walls and party-wall upstands marking where one roof ends and the next begins. For a purchase or a new roof in Slade Green, that shapes what can be checked: only the parts we are given access to and can see safely are inspected. If it is a flat, the lease usually sets out who is responsible for the roof.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

How it works
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes between one and two hours at the house you’re buying, depending on its size and how much of the roof can be seen. For a visit in Slade Green, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You get in touch after your offer is agreed, with the address and your target exchange date.
- We agree a time and how we’ll get in, including the loft.
- We inspect the roof from the ground, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- We check and photograph the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations to read before exchange.
Getting ready for the survey
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Common questions in Slade Green
Is my home in Slade Green listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Are there drone restrictions around Slade Green?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Do I need a roof survey if I’m having a RICS survey?
That depends on how much you want to know about the roof. A home survey may recommend further investigation of the roof, and that’s where a roof survey helps. It doesn’t stand in for a RICS survey.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Do you need to go inside the property?
Ideally, yes. We look in the loft space where there is safe access, and views from upper windows help too. The agent or seller can arrange entry.
When is the best time to have the roof checked when buying?
The sooner after your offer is accepted, the better. You need the report before you exchange, because after that the roof is yours to deal with.
How soon is the report ready?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. Let us know your timetable as you book.
Honest limits
We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- Whether the price should change, which is between you and the seller
- The condition of the rest of the house (that’s a RICS home survey)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

What a pre-purchase roof survey looks like in Slade Green
Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Whether you’re buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the materials helps make sense of what the inspection finds. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roofs
Ponding, blistering, splits and worn upstands are the usual warning signs. We check outlets too, since a blocked one leaves water sitting on the roof.
Gutters and parapets
Hidden gutters behind parapets send water indoors when they block. Where we can see them safely, we check the linings and outlets.
