Tuesley homes and their roofs
Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Each material has its own typical faults, which is what a buyer or the owner of a new roof needs to know about. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
The streets around a church such as St John the Evangelist's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, ask the seller about past roof repairs, because older roofs often have patched valleys, replaced slates and reset ridges. Loseley Park lies about 3.4 miles north, so building around Tuesley goes back a long way. If you’re buying an older home nearby, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before you plan any re-roofing.

Pre-purchase roof survey in Tuesley
We survey roofs for buyers in Tuesley and across London and the South East. From terraced and semi-detached homes to detached houses and flats, we follow the same careful process. The report says what’s in good order, what isn’t and what to deal with first. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability, with more than 20 years’ experience behind us. To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We are often asked to look into worn or lifted lead flashings and chimney mortar that has eroded, across flat-roofed extensions and dormers, the roof space and lead flashings and valleys.
Being in a small place like Tuesley makes no difference to the inspection itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them as you book, so the visit can be planned around them. Whether you’re buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What affects the price in Tuesley
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll explain the options and the price.
FAQs for Tuesley
Is my home in Tuesley listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is Tuesley in the area you cover?
Yes, Tuesley is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
How long will you be at the property?
It usually takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Report times depend on the package, from the same day for Premium to within 48 hours for Basic.
When will the report arrive?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. We send it by email with photos included.
What’s the best way to book?
Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
Do I need a roof survey if I’m having a RICS survey?
They do different things. A home survey looks at the whole property, while ours looks only at the roof, in more detail. Ours sits alongside a RICS survey rather than replacing it.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What a pre-purchase roof survey does not cover
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- A valuation or a promise of a lower price
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Natural slate
- Flat-roofed extensions and dormers
- Gutters and downpipes
- Lead flashings and valleys
- Chimney stacks
- The roof space
When to book a survey in Tuesley
Buildings put up or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. Cement roof sheets, soffits and flue pipes are typical places to find it. We do not carry out asbestos surveys, but we flag materials that might so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before anything is disturbed.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Gaps where slates or tiles have come loose
- Standing water on a flat extension roof
- Chimney mortar that has eroded
- Old water stains in the roof space
Landlords with a home close to Milford (Surrey) station may find that it’s worth knowing a roof’s condition before you buy it, or before you sign off new roofing work on it.
Before you book anyone
- What exactly goes into their report
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
What happens if roof problems are left?
Without a survey, you’re relying on a glance from the pavement. That rarely shows the back slope, the valleys or the top of the chimney. We fill that gap before you’re tied in. Outbuildings and barns around Tuesley are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.
What you get with us
- Visits on any day of the week
- Independent findings on the roof’s condition
- Over 20 years’ experience
- Satisfaction rate of 98%

How it works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older roofs in small places like Tuesley can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey to suit the home you’re buying.
- We agree a visit, including weekends if that helps.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Standard and Premium surveys add the extra checks they include.
- We send the report with recommendations ranked by urgency, ready for you to discuss with the seller or agent.
Before the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
