Roof Leak Investigation in Worthy Down
An experienced roof surveyor for roof leak investigations in Worthy Down. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us.
- Leaks at a dormer or roof window
- Wet patches high on an inside wall
- Ceiling stains that grow after rain
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Chimneys let water in through pointing, flaunching, flashings and open pots. Each is looked at from each safe vantage point.
Parapet and box gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley gutter in the middle. Problems there often show in the rooms on the top floor.
Roof leak investigations for homes and businesses in Worthy Down
Water is good at hiding where it gets in. Water often travels along timbers or underlay before it finds a way down, so a ceiling stain is rarely directly below the cause. We follow it back towards where it starts, one likely route at a time. A repair aimed only at the stain can miss the cause entirely. Tracing the route first means any work can be aimed at the right place. If you’ve noticed water coming in around a roof light or dormer and drips in the loft during heavy rain, we can find out what’s behind it, on slate and tile slopes, rooflights and dormers and lead flashings alike.
For a small place like Worthy Down, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned in advance. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.
If any part of the leaking roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

- Carrying out the fix

Worthy Down questions
Is Worthy Down in the area you cover?
Yes, Worthy Down is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.
How do I find out if my home in Worthy Down is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
Is thermal imaging part of a leak investigation?
Thermal imaging is used where it is useful, and it’s included in our Premium Survey. It shows temperature differences, not water itself, so we confirm its findings with moisture readings.
What insurance do you have?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Will you check the loft?
Normally, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
How we price roof leak investigations
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Roof area
- House, block, shop or office
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What we need to know
There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Anything about access we should know
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.
DIY checks: what’s safe
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours, more where the leak is intermittent or the roof is large. Somewhere like Worthy Down needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- You pick a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We agree a date, including weekends.
- We inspect inside and out, starting from the stain.
- Where it is useful and included, we take moisture readings and use thermal imaging.
- You get photos, the likely cause and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Wind, rain and roofs in Worthy Down
A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it’s listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Margaret's, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. If you own a rental within reach of Winchester station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Anyone responsible for a site like South Wonston Primary School will know that water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.
