About our roof survey in Bembridge
A roof survey tells you what condition your roof is in, before small faults become big ones. We check the coverings, the ridges and hips, the valleys and flashings, the chimneys and the gutters, and the roof space where there is safe access. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations. Where it helps, we say which items are urgent and which can wait. If you are worried about loose chimney pots and debris building up in roof valleys, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Bembridge drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below. It is the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Moss on the roof and weeds in the gutter are both easy to spot from ground level.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

What a roof survey looks like in Bembridge
The coast is about 1 mile or less from Bembridge, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof, while driving rain finds any gap. Bembridge Airport is about 2 miles from Bembridge. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Historic houses such as Yaverland Manor, about 2.4 miles south-west, show how far back building around Bembridge goes. Older roofs nearby often mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Bembridge Methodist Church, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.
Bembridge is about 4 miles south-east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. We survey roofs in Bembridge across London and South East England. Bembridge is one of the places in the Isle of Wight where we work for roof surveys. We also survey roofs in Portsmouth.
Surveys in PO35 are booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need a roof survey at a property on High Street, Church Road and Station Road or anywhere close by, we can survey it. We also cover the places around Bembridge: Foreland Fields (1 mile south-east), Hillway (1 mile south-west), St Helens (1 mile north-west), Gaskins (2 miles west) and Nettlestone (2 miles north-west). We also work in nearby towns like Newport (9 miles west), Ryde (4 miles north-west), Cowes (11 miles north-west), Sandown (4 miles south-west), Shanklin (6 miles south-west) and Ventnor (8 miles south-west). Harder-to-reach addresses take a little more planning, so let us know where you are when booking.
Landmarks near Bembridge
We work in homes and buildings around Bembridge School and The Windmill Hotel and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Brading station, about 2.4 miles west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Lilliput Museum of Antique Dolls And Toys (2.6 miles west) and Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children (5.5 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Bembridge Down and Brading Marshes RSPB reserve.
Common roof problems in Bembridge
Blocked gutters cause a surprising amount of damage. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building, especially near trees.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Torn or sagging underlay
If you let a flat or house near Brading station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
Why it is worth a survey now in Bembridge
Leaving it means relying on what you can see from the ground. That can lead to the wrong work being done, or miss the fault that matters. A survey tells you what actually needs attention. Arranging work in a smaller place like Bembridge is easier with notice than in an emergency. A survey gives you that notice.
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

Checking the roof from ground level
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Bembridge
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photos included.
What we cannot see
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

Common questions in Bembridge
Is Bembridge within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Is drone flying allowed in Bembridge?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Bembridge is about 2 miles from Bembridge Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes, we can. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. We flag materials that could contain it, and recommends a specialist asbestos surveyor looks at them.

How much is a survey?

How it works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. A visit to Bembridge is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
