Roof surveys around Chenies
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. Chenies Manor House, about 0.2 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Chenies. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Chenies School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. For landlords with property near Chalfont & Latimer station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Michael, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

Roof survey in Chenies: what you get
The report is written for you, in plain language. Each defect is described with photos and a recommendation, and we rank them by urgency where that helps. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where applicable and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. We survey lead flashings, ridges, hips and valleys and natural slate, and common reasons people get in touch are water stains on rafters and ceiling joists and cracked mortar along the ridge.
In a village or hamlet like Chenies, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are frequently old. We report on what can safely be seen, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it’s typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

When you need someone else
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- A structural engineer’s report
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- A full building survey of the property
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

What happens on the day
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a hamlet or village like Chenies, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Check we can get to the back of the property

Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
Related advice
Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
FAQs for Chenies
I let a flat near Chalfont & Latimer station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you need.
Is my home in Chenies listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roof coverings
Standing water, blisters and splits all point to wear. Upstands and outlets are checked too, since leaks often start there.
Lead flashings and valleys
Lead flashings seal chimneys, walls and abutments. We check for lead that has lifted, split or slipped.
