About our roof survey in Egham Hythe

Our report is written in plain English, not jargon. Each defect is described with photographs and a recommendation, and we rank them by urgency where that helps. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where it applies and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. We survey ridges, hips and valleys, clay and concrete tiles and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are valley linings that have cracked or split and crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching.

Trees around homes in smaller places like Egham Hythe drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls, and moss holds water against tiles. It is the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

How the survey changes by roof type

Clay plain and peg tiles

Clay tiles commonly last 50 years or more. Slipped, cracked and missing tiles are recorded.

Chimney stacks

Damp on a chimney breast inside frequently starts with the stack outside. We look for the likely route in.

What we cannot see

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • A full building survey of the property
  • Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs
  • The roof space
  • Ridges, hips and valleys
  • Chimney stacks
  • Natural slate
  • Lead flashings
  • Clay and concrete tiles

Why get it checked now?

Many roofs go years without anyone looking at them closely. A survey sets a baseline, which makes later changes easy to spot. Arranging work in a smaller place like Egham Hythe is easier with notice than in an emergency. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

How the survey works

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take about one to two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. A visit to a smaller place like Egham Hythe is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. It’s useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
  3. We check the roof from every safe viewpoint, inside and out.
  4. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Check the roof from ground level after storms
  • Check we can open the loft hatch
  • Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
  • File the report with your home documents

Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. They’ll see each defect and its location, which makes quotes easier to compare.

After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.

Are you insured?

Will you check the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

How much does a roof survey cost in Egham Hythe?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?

No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.

What you can safely check yourself

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

If you look after a building like Thorpe Lea Primary School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
