Roof Survey in Gunville
Need a roof survey in Gunville? We can help, with a written report you can act on. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Worn or blocked valleys
Leave it or get it looked at?
Valley gutters and parapet gutters are out of sight until they overflow. When they do, water comes straight into the house. A survey checks them while they’re still dry. For older village homes like those around Gunville, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

How a roof survey works in Gunville
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have seen a mark on a ceiling or bits of tile in the garden, others want a check before selling or after years without one. The approach is the same in each case: a careful look, then a clear written report. Visits run on any day of the week, so it’s easy to find a day that suits. We survey the roof space, lead flashings and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are gaps in the roof where coverings have gone and standing water on a flat roof.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are frequently where weather gets in first.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Your questions about roof surveys in Gunville
Do you cover smaller places like Gunville?
Yes. Gunville is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is the coastal weather around Gunville hard on roofs?
It can do. Gunville is within about 4 miles of the sea, and coastal roofs tend to see faster wear on metal parts and more wind lifting loose pieces.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
Not as a figure. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it is wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, like serious sagging, we’ll say so. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report.
Do you inspect the roof from on top?
Where it’s safe, yes. We also inspect from the ground, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
What we look for on each type of roof
Concrete interlocking tiles
Ridge and verge mortar on concrete tile roofs can crack and fall away. Loose ridges and gaps in the mortar are recorded.
Lead flashings and valleys
Lead-lined valleys and gutters are common on older homes. Cracks in a lead valley can send water into the roof.
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
- Mention any flat roofs as well as the main roof
- Let us know about past leaks
Premium comes with a follow-up after 12 months. It shows how the roof has fared over the year, and whether work has done its job.
Look at your roof from the ground after strong winds. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.
How we price roof surveys
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Height and safe access
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- Anything about access we should know
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

What else we do in Gunville
Local roofs in Gunville
Gunville lies within about 4 miles of the sea, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
For an older house near a landmark such as St. Mary's Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Take a building like Carisbrooke College: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. Homes near green spaces such as Seaclose Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.
Gunville is about 1 mile west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We carry out roof surveys for homes and businesses in Gunville and the surrounding area. Gunville is one of the places in the Isle of Wight we cover for roof surveys. There is also a page for Portsmouth.
We cover every part of the PO30 postcode area for roof surveys and the streets around it. Local streets include Ash Lane, Purdy Road and Gunville Road, and we cover them all. If you are just outside Gunville, we cover Carisbrooke (1 mile south), Clatterford (1 mile south), Plaish (1 mile south), Bowcombe (1 mile south-west) and Gatcombe (2 miles south). Further out, we also cover Ryde (7 miles east), Cowes (4 miles north), Sandown (8 miles south-east), Shanklin (8 miles south-east), Ventnor (9 miles south-east) and East Cowes (4 miles north-east). Remote addresses need a little more planning, so please mention your location when you call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Around Gunville, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Seaclose Park, Carisbrooke Church of England Controlled Primary School and The Waverley pub and the streets around them. How the survey works
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. In a hamlet or village like Gunville, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
