What a roof survey does not cover

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
  • How the roof will behave in every kind of weather

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Ridges, hips and valleys
  • Chimney stacks

  • The roof space
  • Lead flashings

Roof survey in Hampden Park

There are three levels of survey: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photographs and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, such as moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Every package includes a written report. Common reasons to book are worn or blocked valleys and ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs, on clay and concrete tiles, chimney stacks and ridges, hips and valleys.

Around Hampden Park, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below, and moss holds water against tiles. It is the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Moss on the roof and weeds in the gutter are both easy to spot from ground level.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Why act early in Hampden Park

A roof that has had no attention for years can surprise you. A survey sets a baseline, which makes later changes easy to spot. In an older home around Hampden Park, water from a roof defect can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Stay off ladders and the roof
  • Photograph stains when they appear
  • Check the roof from the ground after storms
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch

Keep the report with your property records. It is a useful baseline for future surveys, and buyers may ask about the roof when you sell.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation builds up when air can’t move, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Check insulation does not block the airflow at the eaves.

Hampden Park questions

Do roofs near the sea, like those around Hampden Park, take more of a battering?

Often, yes. Within about 2 miles of the sea, as Hampden Park is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.

Can a landlord with a rental near Hampden Park station book a roof survey?

Of course. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.

How experienced are you?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?

No. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag materials that could contain it, and recommends a specialist asbestos surveyor looks at them.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

What does a roof survey include?

Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it’s safe. The report includes photos and recommendations.

How long does a roof survey take?

Allow between one and two hours at a typical home, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. We will give you an idea of timing as you book.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Hampden Park, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

  1. You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
  2. We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where safe.
  4. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
  5. We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

Getting a price

Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.

Roof surveys around Hampden Park

The coast is about 2 miles or less from Hampden Park, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.

Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Take a building like Heron Park Primary Academy: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

When to book a survey in Hampden Park

Wherever a roof meets a wall, a chimney or another roof, a flashing keeps water out. Over time lead flashings split, lift or work loose, and mortar fillets crack. Lead is also a target for theft.

People typically book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
  • Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
  • Valley linings that have cracked or split

If you live near a park such as Princes Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.

Before booking anyone

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

What a roof survey includes

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
