- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
What we’re asked to look at in Hanworth
What’s under the slates or tiles is as important as the coverings themselves. Breathable roofing membranes came into use in the UK in the late 1990s, so older roofs often have bitumen felt, and very old ones may have none. Felt that has torn or perished stops doing its job.
People typically book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
For businesses in and around places such as Treaty Centre, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks.
Questions to ask before you book

Roof survey in Hanworth: what you get
There are three levels of survey: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photos and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, such as moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Every package includes a written report. We survey flat roofs, natural slate and clay and concrete tiles, and the problems we are asked to look at most are worn or blocked valleys and leaning or weathered chimney stacks.
A London butterfly roof slopes down to a central valley gutter that drains to the back of the house. From the street you see only a parapet wall, so blocked outlets and split linings go unnoticed until water comes through a ceiling. If your home in Hanworth has one, it needs checking from somewhere that can actually see it.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

How we price roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- The roof’s overall size
- House, block, shop or office
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:
- What made you get in touch
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.
Different roofs, different checks
Concrete interlocking tiles
Mortar at ridges and verges frequently cracks on tiled roofs. Loose ridges and gaps in the mortar are recorded, as wind can lift them.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles commonly last 50 years or more. We check for cracked, slipped and missing tiles, and for spalling where the surface has flaked.
Hanworth homes and their roofs
Hanworth is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. If your survey includes the drone, the exact boundary is checked for the address first. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Buckingham Primary School will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. If you live near a park like Crane Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

Questions from Hanworth
Can a landlord with a rental near Hampton station book a roof survey?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the building, including who will give access on the day.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Hanworth?
London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain doesn’t typically stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we will arrange another day with you.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when booking.
Can you look at a roof that’s joined to next door?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only when it is safe. We also use views from the ground, windows and the roof space, and Premium includes a drone where it applies.

What happens on the day
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey typically takes about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in Hanworth runs like any other.
