Independent roof surveys in High Hurstwood

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving it means relying on what you can see from ground level. You might pay for work that does not fix the real problem, or miss the fault that matters. We tell you what’s really needed. In a place like High Hurstwood, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

What you get with us

  • Clear package prices, including VAT
  • 5,000+ roofs surveyed
  • An independent view of the roof

About our roof survey in High Hurstwood

We survey roofs in High Hurstwood and across London and South East England. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We are insured for professional indemnity and public liability, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photos and recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. When you’re ready to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. If you’ve noticed slates or tiles that have slipped or broken and ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later.

For landlords and managing agents

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Do you need a roof survey in High Hurstwood?

A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Once leaves and moss block a gutter, water spills down the brickwork. Hidden gutters behind parapets and in valleys can send water indoors.

People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
  • Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
  • Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles

If you own a rental within reach of Buxted station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

What to check before booking

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

What a roof survey includes

How the survey changes by roof type

Lead flashings and valleys

Flashings and valleys are where many leaks start. That’s why we check them closely.

Concrete interlocking tiles

On low-pitched roofs, the laps and fixings of interlocking tiles matter. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted.

The survey, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Around High Hurstwood, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
  2. We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where safe.
  4. We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
  5. We email a report with photographs and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What a roof survey looks like in High Hurstwood

In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Holy Trinity Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Take a building like High Hurstwood Church of England Primary School: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
