About our roof survey in Kingsley Green

Everything we check, we check safely: from the ground, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it is safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where applicable, which helps with tall or steep roofs. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Everything we see is photographed for the report. We survey lead flashings, ridges, hips and valleys and natural slate, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are torn or sagging underlay and valley linings that have cracked or split.

Somewhere as small as Kingsley Green, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it is typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.

Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, it usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Around Kingsley Green, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
  4. Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Local roofs in Kingsley Green

Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. If your home is older, it is worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.

Landlords with a home close to Haslemere station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Margaret, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Tips from our surveys

You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • File the report with your home documents
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
  • Gather any paperwork for past roof work

We email the report to you, with photographs of what we found. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. Findings are explained in plain words.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. Watch for stains, damp timbers and daylight through the roof. Photograph anything new.

Chimney stacks

Our chimney check is a visual inspection of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. We will tell you if the flue needs a specialist.

Lead flashings and valleys

Lead-lined valleys and gutters are common on older homes. Cracks in a lead valley can send water into the roof, and lead is a target for theft.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Kingsley Green. For a price for a let property or a block, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.

What we are asked to look at in Kingsley Green

A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Once leaves and moss block a gutter, water spills down the brickwork. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building.

People normally book a survey after spotting something like this:

  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
  • Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
  • Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
  • Debris building up in roof valleys

Anyone responsible for a site like Fernhurst Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection

What’s in a roof survey

What happens if roof problems are left?

A roof that has had no attention for years can surprise you. A survey sets a baseline, so you can compare it next time. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Kingsley Green, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Common questions in Kingsley Green

I let a flat near Haslemere station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.

Is my home in Kingsley Green listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Can you look at a roof that’s joined to next door?

Yes, we can. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.

Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?

Not as a figure. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it is wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
