How a roof survey works in Mill Corner
Our roof surveys cover Mill Corner and the wider South East. Visits run seven days a week. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Common reasons to book are flashings that have come away from the wall and cracked or blistered flat roof coverings, across flat roofs, lead flashings and clay and concrete tiles.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are frequently the first to give way.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Prices for roof surveys in Mill Corner
Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Which survey package you book
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.
Getting in touch
These details help when you get in touch:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- What kind of property and roof it is
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- What’s prompted the survey
Once you know what you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Leave it or get it looked at?
A small roof defect typically gets bigger. One slipped slate lets water reach the battens and underlay, and damp timber slowly weakens. Finding it early keeps the work smaller. In a small place like Mill Corner, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Roof surveys in Mill Corner: local notes
If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The wider area around Mill Corner has a long history of building, with Great Dixter about 1.2 miles north. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take a building like Northiam Church of England Primary School: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. Landlords with a home close to Doleham station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

Is Mill Corner within the area you cover?
Yes, Mill Corner is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
I let a flat near Doleham station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, that is a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What happens on the day
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. For a village or hamlet like Mill Corner, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Find any records of previous roof work

Natural slate
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, yet the nails holding it often fail long before the slate. We check for slipped, cracked and missing slates.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Handmade and machine-made clay tiles are long-lasting. Slipped, cracked and missing tiles are recorded, and for spalling where the surface has flaked.
