Why get it checked now?
Before you put a home on the market, it helps to know the roof’s condition. You can deal with defects before a buyer’s surveyor finds them, or at least know what to expect. Older and listed buildings around Newingreen may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Roof survey in Newingreen: what you get
Our report is written in plain English, not jargon. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and where it’s relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. Typical surveys look at leaning or weathered chimney stacks and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters, on clay and concrete tiles, chimney stacks and flat roofs.
Somewhere as small as Newingreen, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Local roofs in Newingreen
Newingreen is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Lympne Church of England Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If you let a flat or house near Westenhanger station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.

What a roof survey doesn’t cover
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

Common questions in Newingreen
Do you cover smaller places like Newingreen?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Newingreen?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
What’s the best way to book?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details as you book.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
Not as a figure. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
How experienced are you?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. For a village or hamlet like Newingreen, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You tell us about the property and any concerns.
- A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it’s safe.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- We email a report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Note where any stains or damp appear
How to book

Do you need a roof survey in Newingreen?
The underlay under the coverings matters too. Breathable membranes only appeared in the UK in the late 1990s, so many older roofs have bitumen felt underlay, and some very old roofs have no underlay at all. Torn or sagging felt lets water through.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
Take an older house close to Pedlinge Chapel: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
What to check before booking
- What insurance they carry
- What experience they bring
- What they will not be able to tell you
- What exactly goes into their report
Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Photograph stains when they appear
Premium comes with a follow-up after 12 months. It shows how the roof has fared over the year.
Have the roof surveyed every few years, and after major storms. Routine surveys pick up wear before it leaks. Each report gives a record to compare against.
