Roof survey in Paddock
Our roof survey gives you a clear picture of your roof’s condition. We look at the coverings, the ridges and hips, the valleys and flashings, the chimneys and the gutters, and the loft space where there’s safe access. You get a written report with photos and recommendations. Where it helps, we say which items are urgent and which can wait. We survey the roof space, ridges, hips and valleys and clay and concrete tiles, and people most frequently book us about leaning or weathered chimney stacks and leaking gutter joints and downpipes.
Older buildings in small places like Paddock may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is frequently expected.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Local roofs in Paddock
With Belmont House and Gardens about 3.8 miles north, Paddock sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Challock Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Cosmas and St Damian, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

FAQs for Paddock
Is Paddock within the area you cover?
Yes, Paddock is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in Paddock listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, such as serious sagging, we’ll say so. We do not provide structural calculations.
What if it rains on the day?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.
How soon is the report ready?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photographs.
Checking the roof from the ground
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What we do, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a small place like Paddock, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You let us know about the property and any concerns.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- We email a report with photographs and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Prices for roof surveys in Paddock
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Building height and the viewpoints available
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
What to let us know when you get in touch
These details help when you contact us:
- Anything about access we should know
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.
Practical tips
Getting the most from a roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Let us know about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, while Premium includes a consultation in person. You can ask us about anything that is not clear.
Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, ideally after the leaves have fallen. Leave the clearing to a professional. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.
What a roof survey doesn’t cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- A full building survey of the property
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

Signs you need a roof survey in Paddock
Blocked gutters cause a surprising amount of damage. Once leaves and moss block a gutter, water spills down the brickwork. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building, particularly near trees.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
Landlords with a home close to Charing station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- What exactly goes into their report
