Roof survey in Prittlewell: what you get
Our roof surveys cover Prittlewell and the wider South East. Visits run on weekdays and at weekends. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or email us. We survey ridges, hips and valleys, chimney stacks and natural slate, and people most frequently book us about blocked, sagging or leaking gutters and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone.
In a town like Prittlewell, most homes are houses whose owners look after their own roofs. A slipped tile or blocked gutter costs far less to sort than the damp it causes later. A roof report gives you a list of what needs doing and how soon. Photographs show you exactly what was seen, even on parts you cannot reach yourself.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
- Tell us about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
The recommendations are prioritised by urgency where relevant. Some faults need dealing with soon, while others can wait for planned work. That helps you decide what to do first.
Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. Look for water marks, damp wood and chinks of light. Photograph anything new.
Checking the roof from the ground
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Prittlewell questions
I let a flat near Prittlewell station. Can you check the roof?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you need.
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Prittlewell?
Places near the sea get more wind and more salt in the air than inland, and both are hard on roofs. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
Not as a figure. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
How do I arrange a roof survey in Prittlewell?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Prittlewell
Prittlewell lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. The wider area around Prittlewell has a long history of building, with Southchurch Hall about 1.3 miles south-east. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Landlords with a home close to Prittlewell station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. Homes near green spaces such as Prittlewell Square can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are looked at. We note any lean or loose pots.
Concrete interlocking tiles
On low-pitched roofs, the laps and fixings of interlocking tiles matter. We look for lifted, cracked or slipped tiles, especially at the verges and ridge.
What we cannot see
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- A full building survey of the property
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

How the survey works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. For a home in Prittlewell, the main things we need are a way into the loft, a route to the back garden and somewhere to park. If you won’t be there yourself, let us know who will let us in.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We look at the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the loft space where there’s safe access.
- We email a written report with photographs and recommendations.
How to prepare
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
