FAQs for Sevenscore
Can a landlord with a rental near Thanet Parkway station book a roof survey?
Yes, letting agents and landlords book with us as well as owners. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, including who will give access on the day.
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Sevenscore, take more of a battering?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details such as ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
We do not give a number of years. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it is wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Do you look in the roof space?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Roof survey in Sevenscore
Our roof surveys cover Sevenscore and the wider South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photos and recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We are often asked to look into slates or tiles that have slipped or broken and water stains on rafters and ceiling joists, on lead flashings, ridges, hips and valleys and flat roofs.
In a village or hamlet like Sevenscore, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it’s usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Different roofs, different checks
Flat roof coverings
Felt flat roofs often last around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We check its condition and the signs of age.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Ridge and verge mortar on concrete tile roofs can crack and fall away. We check for loose ridge tiles and missing mortar.

Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Roof surveys in Sevenscore: local notes
Sevenscore lies within about 2 miles of the sea, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
The streets around a church like St Mary are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. Landlords with a home close to Thanet Parkway station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. Homes near green spaces like Sandwich and Pegwell Bay can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn.

What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
The survey, step by step
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Cottages and farmhouses around Sevenscore frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We look at the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the loft space where there’s safe access.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

Honest limits
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
