- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- An exact number of years the roof has left

Roof survey in Upper Ruxley
The report is written for you, in plain language. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and where it’s relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where it applies and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. We survey chimney stacks, natural slate and clay and concrete tiles, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and torn or sagging underlay.
Many London terraces have a butterfly roof, with two slopes meeting in a central valley gutter that drains to the rear. From the street you see only a parapet wall, so blocked outlets and split linings go unnoticed until water comes through a ceiling. For a house in Upper Ruxley with this kind of roof, the hidden gutter is one of the first things to check.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Upper Ruxley homes and their roofs
In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Upper Ruxley is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Hall Place and Gardens lies about 2.7 miles north, so building around Upper Ruxley goes back a long way. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs. Trees in and around Foots Cray Meadows shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you run a business near Broadway Shopping Centre, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks.

The survey, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. For a visit in Upper Ruxley, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at what can safely be seen from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it is safe, the roof itself.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Before the survey

What affects the price in Upper Ruxley
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Height and safe access
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:

- Where the property is, with the postcode

Upper Ruxley questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Upper Ruxley?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Upper Ruxley?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
Not as a figure. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we will point you to the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Can you survey in bad weather?
It depends on the weather and the survey. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, like serious sagging, we will say so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.
Do you look in the roof space?
Typically, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Why act early in Upper Ruxley
It is easier to plan roof work than to react to it. With a report, you can tackle the urgent jobs first and plan the rest, rather than waiting for something to fail. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is often older than it looks.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

What you can safely check yourself
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
