Storm damage roof reports in Bletchingley

Storm damage roof report in Bletchingley: what you get

Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. It’s yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and can’t say whether a claim will be paid. If you’ve noticed damaged flat roof membrane and damaged pots on the stack, we can find out what’s behind it, on flat roofs, chimney stacks and flashings alike.

Many homes in small places like Bletchingley face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • How your policy defines a storm
  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Flashings
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flat roofs
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Chimney stacks
  • Slate and tile slopes

How the survey changes by roof type

Slate roofs

Slates often outlast the nails that hold them. We look at whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge and hip tiles take the full force of the wind. We record any that have lifted, cracked or come away.

Tips that help

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:

  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Take photos of stains and damp inside
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed

For repair costs, ask a roofer to quote. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.

Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. Branches can hit or scrape the roof in a storm.

Leaks and storm damage in Bletchingley

Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.

For landlords with property near Nutfield station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Take a building like Bletchingley Village Primary School: a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside. Shop and office owners around The Belfry may find that water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast.

Bletchingley is about 3 miles east of Redhill, in Surrey. Bookings from Bletchingley are handled just like any other: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Our area takes in places right across Surrey, large and small. There is also a page for Crawley.

Bletchingley: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bletchingley?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is Bletchingley within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Raise it with your insurer first. The Financial Ombudsman Service may look at it if that doesn’t resolve it. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

A storm damage report starts from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Will you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. Our report is an independent record for you to use. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

Why get it checked now?

If a roofer needs to make the roof safe, take photos first if you can do so safely from the ground. That keeps a record of how it looked. For older village homes like those around Bletchingley, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen. The survey usually takes an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere as small as Bletchingley, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
