Storm damage roof report in Buckland: what you get
Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Typical damage includes lost slates and tiles, lifted ridges, loose flashings and torn flat roof coverings. Trees and branches can also hit roofs in a storm. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Any older wear we can see is recorded as well. If you’ve noticed roofs hit by falling trees and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Many homes in small places like Buckland face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.
It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Why act early in Buckland
It is useful to get a record soon after the storm, while the damage is fresh. Further storms and quick fixes can make the picture less clear. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.

Storm damage roof reports around Buckland
A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed. The wider area around Buckland has a long history of building, with Cholesbury Manor House about 4.2 miles south-east. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
The streets around a church such as Church of All Saints are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Landlords with a home close to Wendover station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

Common questions in Buckland
Is Buckland within the area you cover?
Yes, Buckland is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How do I find out if my home in Buckland is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
It depends on your policy. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Your policy document will say.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when you book.
Will my insurer pay for an old roof?
Insurers normally exclude wear and tear. We describe what looks like fresh storm damage and what looks older. Your insurer decides the claim.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will explain what’s needed.
What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- The roof’s overall size
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
What we need to know
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
When you’re ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
How it works
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Rural addresses near Buckland can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We check the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
How to book
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
Advice
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Buckland
A storm frequently finds a roof’s existing weak spots. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. We record recent damage alongside older defects.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Damaged ridges and hips
- Gutters pulled loose in the wind
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Slipped or missing slates or tiles
Anyone responsible for a site like Aston Clinton School will know that a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.
