What happens if roof problems are left?

A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, so you’re not relying only on your own photos. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Calshot, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

Why book with us

  • Independent findings on the roof’s condition
  • PI and public liability insurance
  • Over 5,000 surveys carried out

Storm damage roof report in Calshot: what you get

Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the roof space and from the roof where it’s safe. We photograph and describe each area of damage. If part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. You get a written report with photos to give to your insurer. We survey slate and tile slopes, flat roofs and flashings, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are roofs hit by falling trees and damaged ridges and hips.

Somewhere as small as Calshot, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.

The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

How it works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older roofs in small places like Calshot can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roof coverings

Edge trims and laps are often where flat roof coverings start to peel back. The report notes signs of recent damage and older wear.

Slate roofs

Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, especially where the nails have corroded. We record which slates have moved and any signs of older nail fatigue.

What you can safely check yourself

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Calshot

Do roofs near the sea, like those around Calshot, take more of a battering?

Near the coast, roofs face more wind and more salt than further inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, while strong wind lifts anything already loose.

How do I find out if my home in Calshot is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How long will you be at the property?

It typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. The written report follows by email.

What’s the best way to book?

Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Will my insurer pay for an old roof?

Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. We note both storm damage and older defects, so you know what the roof shows. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Start by complaining to the insurer. The Financial Ombudsman Service may look at it if that does not resolve it. The Ombudsman asks about storm conditions, whether the damage is consistent with a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

Storm damage roof reports in Calshot: local notes

Calshot lies within about 1 mile of the sea, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and driving rain finds any gap they leave. About 4.9 miles south-east lies Osborne House, a reminder of how long the area around Calshot has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Take an older house close to St George: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. For landlords with property near Hamble station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

How we price storm damage roof reports

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The size of the roof

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.
