Storm damage roof report in Cheam, Greater London
Storm damage roof reports across Cheam, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. Every survey ends with a written report and photographs.
- Stains appearing after strong winds
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Gutters pulled loose in the wind
Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
- Take photos from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
Once we’ve been, the findings are written up with photos. It sets out what is damaged, the likely cause and any signs of older wear. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.
Keep gutters and outlets clear so heavy rain can drain away. Overflowing gutters can make storm damage worse.
Storm damage roof report in Cheam
Our storm damage report starts from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It isn’t a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for that. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. We survey flat roofs, gutters and fascias and flashings, and the problems we are asked to look at most are torn or lifted flat roof coverings and roofs hit by falling trees.
In converted houses and blocks across London, water from a roof can run a long way before it shows on a ceiling. Tracing it back matters, both for dealing with the cause and for any insurance claim. In Cheam, we inspect what we can reach safely and are given access to. It helps to know when the water appears and in what weather.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Leaks and storm damage in Cheam
In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Cheam is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed. Historic houses such as Nonsuch Mansion, about 1 mile north-west, show how far back building in the area around Cheam goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you look after a building such as Glaisdale School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. The streets around a church like Church of St Andrew are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. If you let a flat or house near Cheam station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

What this survey can’t tell you
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- The outcome of a claim
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- How your policy defines a storm
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Questions from Cheam
Do you carry out roof surveys in Cheam?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Cheam?
Typically it’s manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. The report follows by email.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Will my insurer pay for an old roof?
Most policies do not cover wear and tear. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.

Other services in Cheam
Different roofs, different checks
Ridge and hip tiles
Ridge and hip tiles take the full force of the wind. We record any that have lifted, cracked or come away.
Slate roofs
Slates frequently outlast the nails that hold them. We look at whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.
What affects the price in Cheam
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Height and safe access
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
How it works
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. It normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. In Cheam, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Jot down any questions you want answered

DIY checks: what’s safe
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
