What a storm damage roof report looks like in Chelsfield
The wider area around Chelsfield has a long history of building, with Lullingstone Castle about 3 miles east. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Martin of Tours, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Anyone responsible for a site like Chelsfield Primary School will know that a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you let a flat or house near Chelsfield station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Chelsfield
We inspect the roof from wherever it can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and higher points, from the roof space and from the roof where it is safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. If part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. If you’ve noticed flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In converted houses and blocks across London, water from a roof can run a long way before it shows on a ceiling, sometimes in a different flat from the one below the defect. That makes the source hard to pin down, and finding it matters for whoever has to deal with it. We look at what we’re given access to in Chelsfield, inside and out. It is useful to know when the water appears and in what weather.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Why act early in Chelsfield
If a roofer needs to make the roof safe, take photos first if you can do so safely from ground level. That keeps a record of how it looked. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork, which can lead to damp inside. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

What a storm damage roof report does not cover
Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Whether your insurer will pay the claim
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- A price for the repairs
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Ridges and hips
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs
- Slate and tile slopes
- Gutters and fascias
- Flashings
The survey, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Chelsfield we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, tell us who can let us into the shared parts.
- You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photographs.
Before we arrive
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

Questions from Chelsfield
Do you carry out roof surveys in Chelsfield?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Chelsfield as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Chelsfield?
Typically it is manageable with a little notice. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
How long will you be at the property?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. The written report follows by email.
Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?
That’s not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. What we provide is an independent record of the damage.
