Storm damage roof reports in Wimbledon

Storm damage roof report in Wimbledon: what you get

Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Typical damage includes lost slates and tiles, lifted ridges, loose flashings and torn flat roof coverings. Falling branches can cause damage too. Our report records what has happened to your roof, with photos. Any older wear we can see is recorded as well. If you’ve noticed slipped or missing slates or tiles and ridge tiles that have come loose, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flashings, slate and tile slopes and chimney stacks alike.

In London, leaks often start somewhere hidden: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. Whether you are tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Wimbledon, those are among the first places to look. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Wimbledon

The wider area around Wimbledon has a long history of building, with Southside House about 1.1 miles south-west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Wimbledon is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.

Trees in and around Cannizaro Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. If you run a business near Southside Wandsworth, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running. If you look after a building such as Wimbledon High School, a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.

Different roofs, different checks

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge and hip tiles take the full force of the wind. We record any that have lifted, cracked or come away.

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles without fixings can move more easily in wind. We record what we can see of the fixings.

How we price storm damage roof reports

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Which survey package you book
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

For a price for your roof in Wimbledon, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What to tell us when you contact us

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

When you need someone else

  • Your insurer’s view of the claim
  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Areas we cannot see safely

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

Common questions in Wimbledon

Do you cover Wimbledon?

Yes, Wimbledon is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Wimbledon as anywhere else.

How do I find out if my home in Wimbledon is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is usually excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it’s clear what we found. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

How the survey works

We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes between one and two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Surveys in Wimbledon can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

How to book

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.
