Wimbledon: your questions answered

Do you cover Wimbledon?

Yes, Wimbledon is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Wimbledon?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

What’s the best time to have a new roof checked?

Ideally before you make the final payment so snags can be raised while the job is still open. If that is passed, book before any defects or warranty period ends.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

About our new roof snagging in Wimbledon

Snagging means finding the small faults and loose ends left at the end of a job. Roof snags often show at ridges, verges, valleys and flashings where the work is most fiddly. We inspect as far as can be seen safely and record what we find. Loose ridges, untidy verges, badly dressed flashings and leftover debris are typical snags. Common reasons to book are loose flashings at walls or chimneys and damage to other parts of the building, across new-build homes, ridges and verges and loft conversions and dormers.

In London, plenty of houses have been split into flats, extended or fitted with a dormer loft conversion. Every alteration brings new junctions, flashings and flat-roof areas to look at. For a purchase in Wimbledon, or for new roofing work there, those junctions deserve a close look. Lead work around dormers and new flat roofs is easy to get wrong and easy to miss.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Prices for new roof snagging in Wimbledon

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Which survey package you book
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Why get it checked now?

Specific, photographed snags are easier to discuss than a vague worry. It keeps things factual. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork, which can lead to damp inside. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.

To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Wimbledon homes and their roofs

Southside House, about 1.1 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wimbledon. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most.

For a London address like Wimbledon, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day. For landlords with property near Wimbledon station, a survey before purchase, or before signing off a new roof, saves surprises once a tenant moves in. Take an older house close to St. Mark's Church: older patch repairs can hide behind a tidy front slope, and the survey looks past them.

DIY checks: what’s safe

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

What this survey cannot tell you

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • Areas out of view from each safe vantage point
  • Legal advice on your contract
  • Repair costs for putting snags right

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Loft conversions and dormers
  • Flashings and valleys
  • Ridges and verges
  • Replacement roofs
  • New-build homes
  • New flat roofs

How it works

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Surveys in Wimbledon can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. First, you let us know what the roofer did and any concerns you have.
  2. The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can safely be seen.
  3. We check valleys, flashings and gutters, and the underlay at the eaves where it is visible.
  4. We look in the loft space, where there is safe access, and around the property for debris or damage.
  5. The snags are written up with photos for you to share with your roofer.

Before the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
