Wimbledon Gutter Survey
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes for Wimbledon, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photos.
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Do not leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
Once work is carried out, keep an eye on the gutters in the next downpour. Rain should flow to the outlets and down the downpipes. If it doesn’t, tell whoever did the work.
Get the gutters cleared every year or more often near trees. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clear gutters can carry water away as they should.
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Wimbledon
Owners get in touch after seeing an overflow, finding damp or planning ahead for winter. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. The survey and report follow the same steps whatever the reason, with photographs and written recommendations. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. We’re often asked to look into choked outlets or hopper heads and sagging gutters and loose brackets, across outlets and hoppers, downpipes and parapet and box gutters.
A London butterfly roof slopes down to a central valley gutter that drains to the back of the house. From the street you see only a parapet wall, so blocked outlets and split linings go unnoticed until water comes through a ceiling. If your home in Wimbledon has one, it needs checking from somewhere that can actually see it.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photograph. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

How we price gutter surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Which survey package you book
Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we’ll tell you which fits.
Helping us price your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
If you are buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Wimbledon
A blocked valley or parapet gutter doesn’t spill harmlessly. It can overflow into the building normally during the worst downpours. Having them checked before autumn and winter makes sense. In Wimbledon, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below, which can lead to damp inside. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Gutter surveys around Wimbledon
Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. About 1.1 miles south-west lies Southside House, a reminder of how long the area around Wimbledon has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.
For landlords with property near Wimbledon station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. For businesses in and around places like Southside Wandsworth, knowing the roof’s condition lets you budget for work rather than pay for emergencies. Trees in and around Cannizaro Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters.

Can I check my roof myself?
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

Wimbledon questions
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Wimbledon?
London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
I let a flat near Wimbledon station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and letting agents book with us as well as owners. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details.
How do I arrange a gutter survey in Wimbledon?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How much time does the visit need?
A visit normally takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. You will know roughly how long when we arrange the visit.
Is Wimbledon in your area?
Yes, we do. Wimbledon is part of the area we cover.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
How it works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is frequently on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- We agree which parts of the building you’re most worried about.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Preparing for the visit
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Keep pets in another room
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
