About our gutter survey in Wimbledon Park
People book a gutter survey when gutters overflow, when damp appears or before the wetter months. Landlords and managing agents use the report to plan upkeep, and some buyers want the rainwater system checked before exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way, with photos and written recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. We survey valley gutters, outlets and hoppers and parapet and box gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are water backing up from a hidden gutter and cracked or loose downpipes.
London has Victorian and Edwardian terraces in almost every borough, frequently with slate roofs, chimney stacks shared with neighbours and gutters hidden behind parapets. Good slates can last over a hundred years, yet the nails often give out first and let slates slip. In Wimbledon Park, as across London, that is why a roof needs a close look rather than a glance from the street. Shared chimney stacks and the lead around them are just as important to check.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Why act early in Wimbledon Park
It’s easy to put damp down to the wrong cause. If a leaking gutter or downpipe is the source, other work on the wall will not stop it. A gutter survey helps rule the rainwater system in or out. Any roof job in Wimbledon Park means planning around parking, neighbours and access. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

Wimbledon Park homes and their roofs
Southside House, about 1.8 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wimbledon Park. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Luke, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Homes near green spaces such as King George's Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn. Take a building like Albemarle Primary School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Common questions in Wimbledon Park
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Wimbledon Park?
It can be, so it helps to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking. That way the visit can be planned around it.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wimbledon Park?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Are hidden gutters like valleys and box gutters included?
Yes. These gutters frequently cause leaks indoors when they block, so they’re an important part of the survey. Parts of them may not be visible, and the report says so.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.
Do you survey underground drains?
No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground, from the gutters to the bottom of the downpipes. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we’ll tell you.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Will the survey check for asbestos?
No. We don’t test for asbestos. If rainwater goods or soffits look like they could contain asbestos, we note it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.
What we cannot see
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- The inside of buried drains
- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Eaves gutters
- Outlets and hoppers
- Downpipes
- Valley gutters
- Fascias and soffits
- Parapet and box gutters
The survey, step by step
The visit has one job: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that’s the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Otherwise, the visit in Wimbledon Park runs like any other.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Before we arrive
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Roof by roof
Fascias and soffits
Overflowing water stains soffits and rots timber. We check them along with the gutters.
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
A London butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter, and a blockage there can overflow inside. We check it where it is safe to see.
