Questions from Wimbledon Park

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Wimbledon Park?

Usually it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

How do I find out if my home in Wimbledon Park is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

What’s in the report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

The flight waits for better weather. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check your address and ask for permission where it’s required. If it is not given, we inspect by other means.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

How a drone roof survey works in Wimbledon Park

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed worn lead at chimneys and walls and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Wimbledon Park as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Wimbledon Park

Wimbledon Park is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Southside House, about 1.8 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wimbledon Park. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you live in an older home near Church of St Luke, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Wimbledon Park.

Wimbledon Park is about 1 mile north of Wimbledon, in Greater London. We survey roofs in Wimbledon Park and the rest of Greater London, as part of our work across London and South East England. Across Greater London, we cover Wimbledon Park and the places around it. You can also see our page for London.

Drone roof surveys in SW19 and SW18 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include Dora Road, Church Road and Arthur Road, all of which we cover. You’ll find Wimbledon Park on the A218, which makes it straightforward to reach. If you are just outside Wimbledon Park, we cover Wimbledon (1 mile south), Crooked Billet (1 mile south-west), Copse Hill (2 miles south-west), Merton Park (2 miles south) and Wimbledon Chase (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover London (7 miles north-east), City of Westminster (6 miles north-east), Marylebone (6 miles north-east), Kensington (4 miles north), St Pancras (7 miles north-east) and Shoreditch (8 miles north-east).

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.

What this survey cannot tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Leave it or get it looked at?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there’s time to plan.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

Tips that help

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Make sure insulation does not block the airflow.

How the survey works

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In Wimbledon Park, as in much of London, plenty of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Advice

What a survey costs

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

What we need to know

These details help when you get in touch:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
