How a storm damage roof report works in Clapton

A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It isn’t a repair quote and does not include repair costs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. We survey slate and tile slopes, flashings and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are new damp or leaks inside and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks.

In London, leaks frequently start somewhere hidden: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. Whether you’re tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Clapton, those are among the first places to look. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Clapton

Landlords and managing agents book reports to keep a record for owners and insurers. The report can be shared with owners, tenants or insurers.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Water coming in after the storm
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Broken or displaced guttering
  • Roofs hit by falling trees

Shop and office owners around Hackney Walk may find that a leak can close part of a shop or office, so finding the cause quickly matters.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • When you will get the report
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What a good roof survey covers

What we look for on each type of roof

Clay and concrete tiles

Strong gusts can lift and break tiles. The report shows each damaged area.

Ridge and hip tiles

A lifted ridge tile can let water into the roof. We photograph and describe the damage.

What this survey cannot tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • A decision on your insurance claim

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Flashings

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Clapton moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, tell us who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the loft space where it is safe.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Clapton

Is Clapton in the area you cover?

Yes, Clapton is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

How do I find out if my home in Clapton is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.

How long is the visit?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. The written report follows by email.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

Our reports start from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. The report doesn’t include repair costs.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Keep receipts for any emergency work
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Record any water damage in rooms and the loft

You will need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Clapton

Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. If your home in Clapton is one of them, lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are part of the picture too. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed. The wider area around Clapton has a long history of building, with Sutton House about 0.8 miles south. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.

If you let a flat or house near Clapton station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Anyone responsible for a site like BSix Sixth Form College will know that a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.
