Drone roof survey in Clapton: what you get

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, since that is where leaks and condensation frequently show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about lead work pulling away at abutments and vegetation in valleys and gutters.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Clapton, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Common questions in Clapton

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Clapton?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Is my home in Clapton listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How quickly is the report sent?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

Is Clapton in your area?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Clapton.

Are you insured?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Tips that help

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Tell us the exact address when booking

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

What we do, step by step

We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs

DIY checks: what’s safe

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Drone roof surveys around Clapton

There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Clapton, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Historic houses such as Sutton House, about 0.8 miles south, show how far back building around Clapton goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. If you look after a building like BSix Sixth Form College, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Hotels and guest houses near Clapton can’t easily close rooms for a leak.
