About our drone roof survey in Lea Bridge

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you are worried about vegetation in valleys and gutters and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks alike.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Lea Bridge is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Useful tips for Lea Bridge property owners

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

What we do, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit typically takes about one to two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Lea Bridge we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Lea Bridge questions

Is parking a problem for a survey in Lea Bridge?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot, so mention what’s available as you book.

Are there drone restrictions around Lea Bridge?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’ll then get the report by email.

Can you survey in bad weather?

It depends on the weather and the survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Will I get photos?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.

Airspace, weather and Lea Bridge roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, often with Welsh slate roofs. Many have butterfly roofs draining to a central valley gutter, with parapet walls and gutters hidden behind them. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

For businesses in and around places like Hackney Walk, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. Historic houses such as Sutton House, about 1 mile south, show how far back building around Lea Bridge goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Lea Bridge, along with any off-street space.

Getting in touch

These details help when you contact us:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or email us and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Can I check my roof myself?

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
