Storm damage roof report in Kingston
Our storm damage report starts from £150. It’s a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It is not a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. Typical surveys look at gaps where slates or tiles have gone and broken or displaced guttering, on slate and tile slopes, flat roofs and gutters and fascias.
In a smaller place like Kingston, some roofs face open ground, so wind and driving rain find any weakness in ridges, verges and flashings. A leak that only appears in certain weather frequently points to an exposed detail. It helps to know when and where the water appears. The gutters on the most exposed side can overflow too.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Different roofs, different checks
Lead flashings
Old flashings that were already loose can give way in a storm. Our report separates fresh damage from older wear where we can.
Chimney stacks
High winds can loosen pots, cowls and aerials on stacks. The report notes any damage to the stack.
Honest limits
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- How your policy defines a storm
- Whether your insurer will pay the claim
- Estimates of repair costs

What we do, step by step
It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a smaller place like Kingston, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- You receive the written report with photos.
Before the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
What else we do in Kingston
Storm damage roof reports in Kingston: local notes
Kingston lies within about 1 mile of the sea, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Driving rain off the sea can be pushed into gaps that stay dry in calmer weather. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it’s listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Kingston, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do. If you live in an older home near Church of St Cuthbert, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. Living close to Alexandra Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
FAQs for Kingston
Do you cover smaller places like Kingston?
Yes. Kingston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Is the coastal weather around Kingston hard on roofs?
Yes, coastal weather is harder on roofs: there is more wind, and more salt in the air. Ridges, verges, flashings and fixings are where it typically shows, and Kingston is within about 1 mile of the coast.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Our reports start from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. The report does not include repair costs.
How should I record storm damage myself?
Only from the ground or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. Binoculars can help you see damage from below and we will inspect the rest from safe positions.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access.
