Independent thermal roof surveys in Kingston

Airspace, weather and Kingston roofs

Kingston lies within about 1 mile of the sea. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Cuthbert, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you run a business near The Bridge Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Take a building like Miltoncross Academy: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Kingston is about 1 mile south-east of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. We survey roofs in Kingston across London and South East England. We cover towns and villages across Portsmouth, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for thermal roof surveys: PO1, PO3 and PO4. Whether your property is on Renny Road, Clive Road and Union Road or anywhere close by, we can survey it. You will find Kingston on the A288, which makes it simple to reach. About our thermal roof survey in Kingston

Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. The camera does not see water itself, so we check what it shows with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. If you are worried about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and leaks that are hard to trace, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Even in a smaller place like Kingston, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:

  • Which survey package you book
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Anything about access we should know

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What we do, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Kingston, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Before and after the survey

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Do not climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Check the loft can be reached safely

If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

What this survey cannot tell you

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces

What happens if roof problems are left?

A damp patch that keeps coming back usually has a cause that hasn’t been found. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, instead of trying repair after repair. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Kingston, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included.

What you get with us

Kingston: your questions answered

Is my home in Kingston listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover Kingston?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Kingston is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. The survey isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Can a thermal camera see water?

No, not on its own. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. That is why we check any patterns with moisture readings.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.

What’s in the report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Checking the roof from ground level

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
