Flying and imaging in Paulsgrove

Paulsgrove is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

For businesses in and around places like Tricorn Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most. Take an older house close to St Michael and All Angels: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Anyone responsible for a site like Beacon View Primary Academy will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

About our thermal roof survey in Paulsgrove

Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey loft conversions, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces, and people most often book us about thin or uneven insulation in the roof and wet areas near outlets and upstands.

Around Paulsgrove, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Paulsgrove questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Paulsgrove?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Paulsgrove?

Yes, Paulsgrove is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a same-day report.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Why act early in Paulsgrove

Before replacing a large flat roof, it helps to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you commit. Blocked gutters on homes around Paulsgrove overflow and soak walls. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Which survey package you book
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Height and safe access

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Helping us price your survey

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

Unsure which package suits your roof? It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.

Roof by roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We look at cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.

Loft insulation

From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We look where there is safe access.

DIY checks: what’s safe

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Heat the home normally on the days before
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Leave the roof to people with safe access

You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There is a 12-month follow-up too.

Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.

How the survey works

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Parking around Paulsgrove is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Booking a survey

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.
