For older village homes like those around Lodsworth, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

How a storm damage roof report works in Lodsworth

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. We are often asked to look into gutters pulled loose in the wind and torn or lifted flat roof coverings, on gutters and fascias, flashings and flat roofs.

For a small place like Lodsworth, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned beforehand. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

For landlords and managing agents

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.

With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen. The survey usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Older rural homes like those around Lodsworth can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Related advice

Before and after the survey

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Check how your policy defines a storm

Questions about the findings are always welcome. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.

Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

What a storm damage roof report does not cover

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Areas we can’t see safely
  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

Lodsworth questions

Is Lodsworth in the area you cover?

Yes, Lodsworth is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Lodsworth?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when booking.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.

How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Lodsworth?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Lodsworth

In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. With Cowdray House about 2.4 miles south-west, Lodsworth sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Peter, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.
