Storm Damage Roof Report in Nine Elms
An independent record of roof damage after a storm in Nine Elms, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photos.

- Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
- Slipped or missing slates or tiles
Why it is worth a survey now in Nine Elms
A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Acting quickly typically means less damage overall. In Nine Elms, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Nine Elms
Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Typical damage includes lost slates and tiles, lifted ridges, loose flashings and torn flat roof coverings. Falling branches can cause damage too. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Where we also see signs of older wear, the report records that too. We are often asked to look into flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and new damp or leaks inside, on flashings, chimney stacks and flat roofs.
Many London homes are well over a century old and their roofs have been patched more than once. Insurers normally exclude wear and tear, so it is useful to know whether damage is old or new. That is as true in Nine Elms as anywhere in London. A written record with photographs helps you explain what was found to whoever deals with it next.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Height and safe access
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.
Helping us price your survey
We’ll typically ask about:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What kind of property and roof it is
To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You will know the price before anything is booked.
Honest limits
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- Repair costs or quotes for the work
- Acting for you with the insurer
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will recommend the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Flat roofs
- Gutters and fascias
- Flashings
- Ridges and hips
- Chimney stacks
- Slate and tile slopes
How the survey works
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
- The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
- The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Booking a survey

Advice
Checking the roof from the ground
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
How the survey changes by roof type
Lead flashings
Flashings with older defects often fail in high winds. We record what looks recent and what looks older.
Slate roofs
In high winds, slates can slip or go, frequently where nails have rusted. We record which slates have moved and any signs of older nail fatigue.
Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Nine Elms
Do you cover Nine Elms?
Yes, Nine Elms is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the property.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Nine Elms?
It rarely stops a survey, but it’s worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. We record the damage, with photos and the likely cause, which you can pass to your insurer.
How long will you be at the property?
Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The written report follows by email.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
What if the roof was already worn?
Wear and tear is usually excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it is clear what we found. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Storm damage roof reports in Nine Elms: local notes
Inner London’s Victorian and Edwardian terraces often have Welsh slate roofs. A butterfly roof with a central valley gutter, tucked behind a parapet wall, is common on these houses. If your home in Nine Elms is one of them, lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are part of the picture too. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. Historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 1.1 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Nine Elms goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
If you run a business near Harrods, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running. Anyone responsible for a site like St Gabriel's CofE Primary School will know that water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. Trees in and around Pimlico Gardens shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.
