Storm damage roof report in Rotherbridge

If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. Typical surveys look at flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and new damp or leaks inside, across flashings, gutters and fascias and chimney stacks.

For a small place like Rotherbridge, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Tips from our surveys

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:

  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • Photograph damage inside the house too
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so
  • Ask a roofer for emergency temporary protection if water is coming in

You will need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.

After a storm, look at the roof from the street or garden. With binoculars, you can frequently spot problems without climbing. Never climb onto the roof yourself.

What we are asked to look at in Rotherbridge

Branches and trees often come down on roofs during storms. The report shows what was hit and the damage caused, backed up with photos.

Problems we come across frequently include:

  • Loose or torn flashings
  • Gutters pulled loose in the wind
  • Holes or cracks caused by debris
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings

If you own a rental within reach of Pulborough station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

What to check before booking

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What a good roof survey covers

Rotherbridge: your questions answered

Do you carry out roof surveys in Rotherbridge?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Rotherbridge is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Do you cover smaller places like Rotherbridge?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access.

Do you look in the loft space?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Tell us about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Rotherbridge

About 1.2 miles north-east lies Petworth House, a reminder of how long the area around Rotherbridge has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.

Take an older house close to The Parish Church of All Hallows: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Take a building like Petworth Cof E Primary School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

What we cannot see

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Around Rotherbridge, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Why it is worth a survey now in Rotherbridge

A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is normally better. For older village homes like those around Rotherbridge, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
