Thermal roof survey in Aaron's Hill: what you get
Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. The camera doesn’t see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. Conditions on the day affect the results, and the report explains how. Typical surveys look at damp around chimneys and parapets and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, across ceilings below the roof, insulated roof spaces and pitched roof slopes.
Places like Aaron's Hill can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Common roof problems in Aaron's Hill
Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, particularly when it’s warm inside and cold outside.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Cold areas below the roof
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
Historic houses such as Loseley Park, about 2.5 miles north-east, show how far back building around Aaron's Hill goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

When you need someone else
It is useful to know what a survey will not do before booking:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

Thermal roof surveys in Aaron's Hill: local notes
Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Take an older house close to St Mark's Church and Community Centre: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. If you look after a building like St Mark and All Saints Church of England Primary, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Common questions in Aaron's Hill
Do you cover smaller places like Aaron's Hill?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is Aaron's Hill in the area you cover?
Yes, Aaron's Hill is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a same-day report.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when booking.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It is a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. What it shows depends on the weather and the roof. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.
What happens on the day
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Aaron's Hill is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming

Checking the roof from the ground
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
Roof by roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.
