Alperton Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal roof surveys across Alperton, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. Every survey ends with a written report and photos.
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
Thermal roof survey in Alperton: what you get
Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. It’s important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so findings are checked with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. Conditions on the day affect the results, and the report explains how. We’re often asked to look into damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and heat escaping through the roof, on insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building as you book. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
How the survey works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In Alperton, as in much of London, plenty of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice
Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Alperton
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Alperton?
Parking in Alperton, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot, so mention what’s available as you book.
Is my home in Alperton listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it is applicable. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
How do I book a survey in Alperton?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can be useful, though pitched roofs are normally harder to read. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
Honest limits
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- A structural engineer’s assessment

Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. Moisture readings are used to check them.
Drones, thermal imaging and Alperton roofs
Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Alperton is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Alperton, and like offices and blocks, hotels frequently sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.
Pitzhanger Manor lies about 2.1 miles south, so building around Alperton goes back a long way. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Alperton, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Parking in Alperton, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier.

Tips that help
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- File the images with your roof records
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Insulation is often moved when people work in the roof space.
What happens if roof problems are left?
A damp patch that keeps coming back normally has a cause that hasn’t been found. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
