Wembley Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for Wembley and the rest of Greater London. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Water that travels before it shows
- Stains that keep coming back
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
About our thermal roof survey in Wembley
Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. The camera doesn’t see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. We are frequently asked to look into cold areas below the roof and damp patches with no obvious cause, on pitched roof slopes, commercial roofs and ceilings below the roof.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Wembley, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Wembley questions
Is drone flying allowed in Wembley?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wembley?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we will agree the details when booking.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. The survey is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
What happens on the day
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that’s the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Roof by roof
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Water under felt or asphalt can stay hidden for years. The camera can give clues to where it is sitting, given suitable conditions on the day.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.
What a survey costs
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Which survey package you book
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The roof’s overall size
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Anything about access we should know
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.
Checking the roof from ground level
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
Flying and imaging in Wembley
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Within a mile and a half or so of Wembley there are several hotels, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near London Designer Outlet, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most. Northolt Manor, about 3.4 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wembley. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Augustine, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Wembley is about 5 miles west of Hampstead, in Greater London. Wherever you are in Wembley, we can come and survey your property. Wembley is one of the towns and villages in Greater London we cover. You can also see our page for London.
Here we cover the HA9, HA0, HA1 and NW9 postcode area for thermal roof surveys. We cover properties on Market Way, London Road and Queenscourt. You’ll find Wembley on the A404 and A4088, so it’s easy for us to get to. Close by, we survey roofs in Wembley Park (1 mile east), Preston (1 mile north), Mapesbury (1 mile south-east), Tokyngton (1 mile south-east) and Stonebridge Park (1 mile south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as London (10 miles south-east), City of Westminster (7 miles south-east), Marylebone (7 miles south-east), Kensington (6 miles south-east), St Pancras (8 miles east) and Shoreditch (10 miles east).
Near you in Wembley
In Wembley, that means homes and buildings near Preston Manor School, Preston Park and Hilton London Wembley pub, among other places. Wembley’s nearest station is North Wembley station, roughly 0.5 miles west of the centre. Why get it checked now?
Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Useful tips for Wembley property owners
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
