Thermal roof surveys in Ansty

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ansty

Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are frequently harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we combine the camera with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access. If you’ve noticed damp around roof outlets and upstands and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.

Villages like Ansty often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Roof area

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

Getting in touch

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • What made you get in touch
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Anything about access we should know

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.

Airspace, weather and Ansty roofs

With Ockenden Manor about 1.2 miles north-east, Ansty sits in an area with a long building history. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

For an older house near a landmark such as St John the Evangelist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Take a building like Warden Park School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Ansty is about 3 miles west of Haywards Heath, in West Sussex. In Ansty, as across West Sussex, every roof gets the same careful survey. Ansty is one of the towns and villages in West Sussex we cover. Crawley is in our area too.

Every address in RH17 is covered for thermal roof surveys. Streets in the area include Upton Drive, Bolney Road and Deaks Paddock, all of which we cover. Close by, we survey roofs in Abbotsford (2 miles south-east), Goddards Green (2 miles south), Hickstead (2 miles south-west), Jacob's Post (3 miles south-east) and World's End (3 miles south-east). Larger places within reach include Crawley (8 miles north), Horsham (8 miles north-west), Haywards Heath (3 miles east), East Grinstead (11 miles north-east), Shoreham-by-Sea (12 miles south-west) and Lancing (13 miles south-west).

Ansty: your questions answered

Is Ansty within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How do I find out if my home in Ansty is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

What do I do with the report?

You will get the report by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

Not directly. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

What this survey cannot tell you

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • A formal energy assessment

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions

Why it’s worth a survey now in Ansty

If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Ansty, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we can help you choose.

How it works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Ansty can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Tips from our surveys

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Heat the home normally on the days before
  • Leave the roof to people with safe access
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather

Where a pattern cannot be confirmed, the report says what could help, for instance electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.

After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.

Can I check my roof myself?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
