Thermal roof surveys for Droxford homes and businesses

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Thermal roof survey in Droxford

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. If you’ve noticed wet areas near outlets and upstands and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Villages like Droxford frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

Tips from our surveys

You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Don’t switch the heating off before the visit

Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. What you do with it is up to you, whether you ask for work before completion or discuss the price.

After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry, when the conditions are suitable.

Common questions in Droxford

Is Droxford in the area you cover?

Yes, Droxford is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Droxford as anywhere else.

How do I find out if my home in Droxford is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take an hour or two at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. The report follows by email.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.

What insurance do you have?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Different roofs, different checks

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We combine a visual check of cracks with the thermal images around them.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it is sitting, given suitable conditions on the day.

Thermal roof surveys in Droxford: local notes

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Take a building like Droxford Junior School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary and All Saints are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Droxford is about 7 miles north-west of Horndean, in Hampshire. We carry out thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Droxford and nearby. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. There is also a page for Southampton.

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older roofs in small places like Droxford can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Before the survey

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Let us know about parking before the day
