Thermal roof surveys near Brockbridge

Leave it or get it looked at?

Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Older and listed buildings around Brockbridge may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Brockbridge

Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Leaks frequently run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you’ve noticed possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and damp around roof outlets and upstands, we can find out what’s behind it, on commercial roofs, flat roofs and loft conversions alike.

In a small place like Brockbridge, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Tips from our surveys

Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Leave the roof to people with safe access
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather

Where a pattern can’t be confirmed, the report says what could help, for instance electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water doesn’t sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

Airspace, weather and Brockbridge roofs

An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Meonstoke Church of England Infant School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary and All Saints, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

How the survey works

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. The survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older rural homes like those around Brockbridge can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Related advice

Can I check my roof myself?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Common questions in Brockbridge

How do I find out if my home in Brockbridge is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is Brockbridge within the area you cover?

Yes, Brockbridge is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?

Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Brockbridge?

Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.

How we price thermal roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Roof area
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. You will know the exact price before booking.

What we need to know

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.

How the survey changes by roof type

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.
