About our thermal roof survey in Firgo

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. Typical surveys look at possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, on insulated roof spaces, commercial roofs and flat roofs.

Older buildings in small places like Firgo may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Roof area
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

Getting in touch

Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Our phone lines are open seven days a week. For a price or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Flying and imaging in Firgo

If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Anyone responsible for a site like Testbourne Community School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Firgo is about 6 miles east of Andover, in Hampshire. We cover Firgo and the rest of Hampshire, as part of our work across London and South East England. Firgo is one of the places in Hampshire we cover for thermal roof surveys. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

Practical tips

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Do not switch the heating off before the visit
  • Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive

If the images suggest moisture that cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry, when the conditions are suitable.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Firgo can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

FAQs for Firgo

Do you cover Firgo?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Firgo is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Do you cover smaller places like Firgo?

Yes. Firgo is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How long will you be at the property?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The report is sent afterwards by email.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.

What happens next?

You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

What we look for on each type of roof

Loft insulation

Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. Thermal imaging helps suggest where it is, when the conditions allow.

Honest limits

Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • A formal energy assessment
  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
