Thermal imaging roof survey in Wells-in-the-Field, Hampshire
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Wells-in-the-Field, and put it all in a written report with photographs.
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
Thermal roof survey in Wells-in-the-Field: what you get
A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. The report is clear about what the images show and what they do not. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. We survey flat roofs, commercial roofs and loft conversions, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are stains that keep coming back and ceilings that feel colder in places.
Older buildings in small places like Wells-in-the-Field may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Airspace, weather and Wells-in-the-Field roofs
There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Nicholas' Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Take a building like Whitchurch Church of England Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Common questions in Wells-in-the-Field
Do you carry out roof surveys in Wells-in-the-Field?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Is my home in Wells-in-the-Field listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
What happens on the day
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Wells-in-the-Field can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Advice
What happens if roof problems are left?
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. In time, it stops insulating properly and can damage the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. In a place like Wells-in-the-Field, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Roof by roof
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Slate and tile roofs are often harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.
Loft insulation
Heat loss shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and colder outside. We explain in the report how the conditions on the day affected what we saw.
What you can safely check yourself
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

How we price thermal roof surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Height and safe access
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we can help you choose.
What to tell us when you contact us

- Dates you are working to, like exchange
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- What made you get in touch

When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Confirming water without moisture readings
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
