Thermal roof survey in Froxfield Green: what you get
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. We survey loft conversions, pitched roof slopes and insulated roof spaces, and the problems we are asked to look at most are stains that keep coming back and wet areas near outlets and upstands.
Older buildings in small places like Froxfield Green may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Froxfield Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Getting ready for the survey
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Advice
FAQs for Froxfield Green
Is my home in Froxfield Green listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Will you come out to Froxfield Green?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What do I do with the report?
The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.
What this survey cannot tell you
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Confirming water without moisture readings
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- A structural engineer’s assessment
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check

- Ceilings below the roof
- Loft conversions

Thermal roof surveys in Froxfield Green: local notes
If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.
Take a building like Froxfield Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Common roof problems in Froxfield Green
Some buyers want extra detail before they commit to a purchase. The Premium Survey brings thermal imaging and a drone inspection where applicable, with a report the same day, which suits a purchase that is moving quickly.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Stains that keep coming back
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
Take an older house close to Church of St Peter on the Green: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

How the survey changes by roof type
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Junctions where roofs meet walls, parapets and valleys are common places for water to get in. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.
